Virgon Training Courses Mobile Data Collection and Management Using Open Data Kit (ODK)
Mobile Data Collection originated from the need to improve on the old paper-based data collection methods. In the past, data collection was performed using paper and pen, which made it prone to error, difficult to conduct on a large scale, and high in transaction costs. Advances in information technology have opened exciting new avenues of collecting data for monitoring and evaluation that does not require the use of papers. Modern technology is proven to improve the speed and accuracy of data collection, with resultant service delivery efficiency, and staff performance. One of these advances in information technology is the use of Mobile Data Collection (MDC). Mobile Data Collection tools and technologies such as mobile devices and software such as ODK that allow users to create surveys, collect, manage and upload data to storage facilities in real-time, have reduced the conventional challenges associated with remote data collection.
This course is a comprehensive hands-on training program designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to set up, administer, and manage a mobile-based data collection platform using ODK. Participants will learn how to leverage the capabilities of ODK to streamline their data collection processes, improve data quality, and enhance data management efficiency.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Introduction to Mobile Data Collection with ODK
Designing Data Collection Forms with ODK Build
Device Calibration (Mobile Phones/Tablets) – ODK Collect
Data Management with KoboToolbox
Data Security and Privacy
This course is designed for project staff, researchers, evaluation practitioners, and organizations that wish to digitize their data collection processes. These may include, but not limited to the following individuals and professional:
